To work with geo-information you do not have to be a technician. Are you socially involved, analytical and you have "something" with maps, that is a good basis for studying Geo. You can do all levels: High school, college and university. In many courses you choose Geo as part of GIS.
Erwin Hadderingh (Surveyor / Laser Scan Operator) at Passe-Partout Survey collaborated on the GO-Geo campaign by the GEO Foundation Labor Geo. A two-year campaign aims to make young people enthusiastic for a study Geodesy. Passe-Partout sponsors this campaign.
